idea 2006: still digesting

Well, it's Friday morning already and I'm going to guess that most of the IDEA 2006 participants have had a similar week to mine: get home and back to work on Wednesday, try to be productive, have these totally disruptive synaptic moments where a random thought or a brilliant quote from the conference comes leaping forward suddently derailing your best efforts at concentrating on whatever you were doing, and wish you had time to write something about it to at least get it out of your head so you can get back to work.

Or at least, that's what's been happening to me this week.

The writing on this conference is thin at this point, which given the subject matter seems quite shocking. I'm going to attribute it to the above reasons. Some interesting links to date include...

Andrew Otwell
has posted a good summary of the event, Peter Merholz has linked to the audio of Bruce Sterling's brilliant wrap-up keynote. It was entertaining, humourous and somewhat inspiring all at the same time.

And I've dumped a ton of pics to Flickr from my camera and cameraphone. Most of them are from a walkabout of the Library itself and all of its Koolhaasian glory.

On that note, Dan Hill bookmarked the original proposal for the library, which is fascinating and I'll come back to that in a future post.

Phew. Look for an essay on the conference in the next day or two when I get some time to collect those random thoughts.

  • Excellent post on what sounds like a wonderful conference. The recording of the Bruce Sterling talk was great.

Is it my imagination, or are large swaths of that library weirdly noisy? I see a lot of very hard surfaces...

Also, here's the problem with the Seattle library: I'm sure it's a very nice place, but wouldn't you rather read a book here?
