vidfest 2006

I took lots of pen-and-paper analog notes and hope to find some time to put something together with them. Presentations by Mark Pesce (he co-authored VRML - flashback!), New York digital artist/designer Joshua Davis, and local designer Wil Arndt all caught my attention in one way or another. Keynotes by Nolan Bushnell, creator of Pong (we all knew that, but did you know he also invented Chuck E Cheese!?!) and Don Mattrick (Electronic Arts) and Terry McBride (Nettwerk Records) also had some interesting stuff to say. And having a quick chat with George Oates from Flickr was fun too -- I tried hard not to gush about Flickr too much. Hard to do when one of the creators of the site is sitting next to you.
Kudos to Kirsten and the New Media BC team for organizing a well run, well attended event. Bravo.
In the meantime, it's off to the Fraser Valley to fundraise for the MS Society of Canada. I'm riding my bike for two days to support a great cause. You can pitch in some dollars too - it's not too late. Visit my donations page online.

Back when Flickr was moving from Vancouver down to the Bay Area, they threw a big going-away party at the Alibi Room. Thus, I could tell you the story about how Stewart and I shut the place down drinking Tequila Shooters.
In all seriousness though, I had the fanboy-itis too. How can you not? Flickr is great.
