work / life balance panel discussion

Started my week off right with an interesting breakfast meeting of panelists who will be participating in the New Media BC event "Work/Life Balance: Empty Promise or Key to Happiness" on Thursday of this week (Nov 23rd) at the Vancouver Film School.

Wil Arndt (mod7) and myself are moderating this panel discussion and it should be an interesting one. Kicked off by a blog post of one of the panelists, Wil sent around a few emails asking for some feedback about the article. It provided some strong and lengthy responses. We had lunch, Wil floated the idea of putting a panel together to discuss it more with the community at large and voila: our event goes on Thursday night.

On the panel, there's a pretty good newmedia / design perspective. But we also have a lawyer - not just any old lawyer, but a partner at Canada's largest law firm and a woman with 5 teenage children. Talk about balancing acts!

If the discussion is anything as good as breakfast this morning, you'll want to be at the VFS on Thursday night. Register online at the New Media BC site.

In the next few days I'll try to do a summary of the talk and some of the research I've done to date. There's a lot of good material out there about the topic and some interesting perspectives on something that everyone tackles, be it in the new media / design sector or elsewhere.

Event starts at 4:30, speakers start at 5:00 at VFS. See you there.
