night one: world track champs
I'm down here representing PezCyclingNews.com, having managed to convince Rich (aka "the Pez") that I was worthy of a press pass. The media scrum is pretty impressive, with reporters from all across the world here. I'm in the midst of the Dutch press, some Aussies and a few French.

The view from the infield...
Germany and French are now duking it out for the Men's Team Sprint bronze. 3 guys, 3 laps, all out effort. Tournaut whizzes by, the French legend. Germany takes it - 44.790, averaging 60kmh. Wow.
I've managed to post a few pics so far of the ADT Center. It's an impressive building, made all the more impressive with a few thousand fans, tons of riders, commissaires, an army of volunteers, and assorted riff-raff (like myself).
Hoy, Queally, Staff on deck now. The British team apparently did a time trial last week to determine who would represent them at Worlds. Only last week -- they've got so much depth, they had a competition to see who was going to make the spot. Hoy and Queally were riding around in circles by us earlier, both with headphones on. One of my quests here is to find out what's hot on the iPod of a World Track Champ rider. Heavy metal? Dance? Some good old Rock n' Roll? We'll find out.
I also spent some good time this evening hanging out with last year's World Champ Silver medalist in the Women's Scratch, Mandy Poitras. Mandy's competing tomorrow night and I'll be cheering her on at the top of my lungs.
Theo Bos rolling by as they have a bit of a delay due to a tech issue at the starting gates. He's the sprint champ and a young one too -- 23 years old. It's Great Britain vs. Netherlands in the final here. Should be a good one.
That's it for now. More in the hours & days to come.
